“By George, we can do it if we all work hard!”

Dallas Harris

Dallas Harris had a dream for the land east of Boise. But coupled with that dream was his courage and drive to pursue it. And he'd be very proud that his vision of his plan is still viable and is in development as he truly envisioned it, today.

In March of 1976, Dallas Harris completed the first Master Plan called the “Warm Springs Village Plan.” Dallas' wife, Alta, his son Randy, and his daughters, Millie Davis and Felicia Burkhalter are continuing that plan through hard work and dedicated citizen participatory planning.

At the tail end of 2006, a clear vision of the future of Harris Ranch evolved. That vision, which incorporates New Urbanism principles and a Smart Growth philosophy, is one of pedestrian-oriented public streets, plazas, greens, riverfront walks and pathways. The public streets are lined with mixed-use shop-front buildings representing historic downtown Boise and the iconic buildings of the agriculture and timber industries.

Dallas Harris had it right all along -- a sense of community is born by the residents, their attitudes and their surroundings that enables them to LIVE WHERE YOU LIVE.
